Our story

The story behind the jewellery

Wren & Ivory began at a small bench in the corner of a room, with a handful of tools and an interest in making things properly.

We still work that way. Every piece is made in-house in the United Kingdom, shaped by hand from recycled gold and sterling silver rather than ordered in from a catalogue. It is slower, and that is rather the point.

Our designs come from ordinary things: the curve of a pebble, light on water, the worn edge of an inherited ring. We keep them simple so they can be worn every day, and finish them carefully so they last.

How a piece is made

From first sketch to finished piece

  1. Step 01

    Idea

A rough sketch, usually drawn quickly and revisited over weeks.

  2. Step 02

    Design

Proportions, width and finish are decided in metal, not on screen.

  3. Step 03

    Handcraft

Sheet and wire are annealed, formed and textured entirely by hand.

  4. Step 04

    Finish

Filing, sanding and polishing — the slowest part of the process.

  5. Step 05

    Ready to wear

Checked, stamped with our maker's mark and boxed by hand.

Materials

Chosen carefully, used sparingly

We use recycled 9ct gold, 14ct gold fill and recycled sterling silver, with freshwater pearls and stones bought in small quantities from UK suppliers we know.

Offcuts are kept and remelted, packaging is plastic-free and repairs are always offered before replacement. A piece that can be mended is a piece that can be kept.

A personal approach

Made for one person at a time

Most orders are made after they are placed, which means we can adjust a length, change a finish or engrave the inside of a band before it is boxed.

If you have something in mind that we do not make, write to us. Commissions begin with a conversation and a sketch, exactly as our own collections do.
